January 22 Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children

As all of us are aware, more than 60 million abortions have taken place since the 1973 decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton.  As Christian individuals, we are called, through our baptism in Christ, to protect the unborn and vulnerable of our society.  We must reflect with heartbreaking sorrow on the magnitude of devastation the 1973 decision has placed upon our nation and our world.  However, we have great trust in God’s providence and His ever powerful Mercy that He wants to share with each of us. We are constantly reminded through Sacred Scripture to seek the Lord’s help, and as people of faith, we believe that our prayers are heard.  The Church, has designated January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance which is called the “Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children”.

In all the Dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 (or January 23, when January 22 falls on a Sunday) shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.  For this reason; The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help invites you to join with us for all day Eucharistic Adoration to be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.
