Event Details

Looking for new ways to foster the faith in your family?  Bring your family together for Champion Shrine’s Wednesday Evening Mass and Class Catechetical Series,

Inspired by the locutions of Mother Mary, Our Lady of Good Help,  when she appeared at Champion in 1859 and instructed Adele Brise to  ‘gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they need to know for salvation, ‘  our Champion Shrine Chaplain, Father Thomas Reagan, of the Fathers of Mercy, will continue to offer his popular Wednesday Evening Mass at 5:45 PM and  Class at 6:45 PM. Come to either or both.

On the Wednesday evening of each week, for the fall  beginning August 24 – September 28.  Father Thomas will celebrate Mass at 5:45 PM, followed up by a special catechetical series that includes free weekly lessons outlining the tools you and your family can use to deepen your faith and discover a more meaningful relationship with Christ.

According to Catholic Answers: The word “virtue” is used as a synonym for goodness or sobriety or some likable personality trait, but the Church uses the term in a much more precise way. Virtues are special graces given by God to the soul for the accomplishment of particular objectives. They inhere in the soul and are subject to strengthening or weakening. The Church distinguishes between two general categories of virtues: theological and moral.

Faith, hope, and charity are called theological virtues because they are the most important characteristics in a Christian’s life.

Moral virtues are so called because they help us live within the moral parameters set forth by the gospel. Chief among them are prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude, also known as cardinal virtues (derived from the Latin cardo, meaning hinge, because on them hinge all other moral virtues).
