Volunteer and Events Coordinator

If you enjoy working with others and being part of a team for Jesus and the Blessed Mother, this position may be for you! The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion is seeking a Volunteer and Events Coordinator to be part of the Shrine team.

This Full-Time (40 hrs. per week) position is primarily responsible to work with Shrine staff to coordinate and recruit volunteers for all Shrine events and activities. This position will also coordinate and plan events and activities at the Shrine and provide backup to the Pilgrimage Coordinator for planning and execution of pilgrimage visits. Will ensure that all needed support from the Shrine is provided to ensure the volunteer and pilgrimage expectations are met. Responsible for recruiting and training of volunteers and will maintain a master database of all volunteers.

K: Knowledge

  • Requires a high school diploma, with an Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Catholic liturgical procedures is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires a practicing Catholic in good standing, and must believe that the events, apparitions, and locutions given to Adele Brise in October of 1859 do exhibit the substance of supernatural character.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Employees are expected to attend retreats, seminars, and small group discussions where faith is discussed.
    • Ensure that the needs and expectations of visiting pilgrims are met through the optimal development and deployment of volunteers and good practices in event and pilgrimage planning.
    • Recruit, interview, train & schedule (with department staff) Shrine volunteers for regular activities and special events.
    • Arrange individual training and training days for Shrine event volunteers when required.
    • Coordinate and maintain volunteer information in a master database.
    • Coordinate with respective Shrine Leaders the volunteer needs for upcoming Shrine events.
    • Send routine communications to volunteers for positions needed along with general volunteer and Shrine-related information.
    • Coordinate annual volunteer appreciation event and encourage/facilitate other acts of appreciation for our volunteers.
    • Coordinate and plan with Shrine staff the activities for upcoming events and pilgrimage groups at the Shrine – to include setting up meetings, maintaining task lists, meeting notes and event food service.
    • Review activities with Shrine staff related to past events and pilgrim visits for the purpose of updating tasks lists and notes for recurring events.
    • As a backup to the Pilgrimage Coordinator, helps to coordinate pilgrimage groups visiting the Shrine, including, but not limited to their: on-site activities, meal arrangements, liturgical activities, and volunteers needed.  Includes follow-up contact as necessary to ensure all aspects of the pilgrimage is fully coordinated.
    • Attend conferences as needed to promote Shrine volunteer needs, events and pilgrimages.
    • Provide History talks as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.
