Personal veneration is available in the Chapel during the hour before the 11:30 a.m. Mass, offering quiet time for prayer and reflection.

St. Francis of Assisi’s feast day is on October 4. In honor of his life and witness, the National Shrine will bring his relic from the Apparition Oratory to the Apparition Chapel for veneration that day.

St. Francis of Assisi is remembered for his deep love for Christ, his life of poverty and humility, and his care for all of God’s creation. As the founder of the Franciscan Order, he inspired many to live the Gospel with simplicity and joy. His witness continues to encourage the faithful to seek peace, serve the poor, and honor God in all creation.
