From October 7–9, thousands of pilgrims gathered at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion for three days of prayer, remembrance, and celebration honoring the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the anniversary of the Miracle of the Fire, and the Solemnity of Our Lady of Champion.
The celebration began on October 7 with the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This year also marked five years of The Shrine’s Rosary Confraternity, which has grown to 20,000 members united in prayer. What a beautiful reminder of how one simple invitation to pray can reach so many people.
On October 8, pilgrims remembered the night in 1871 when families gathered with Adele Brice on the chapel grounds as fire swept through the surrounding countryside. They prayed through the night, trusting in Our Lady’s intercession. The chapel and all who sought refuge there were spared.
More than 150 years later, pilgrims once again walked the grounds in a candlelight Rosary procession. As darkness settled over The Shrine, the faithful continued that tradition of prayer, followed by all-night Eucharistic Adoration.
On October 9, the Solemnity of Our Lady of Champion, pilgrims joined Fr. Rocky for the Family Rosary Across America and gathered for Mass celebrated by Bishop David L. Ricken. A Eucharistic Rosary procession, opportunities for Confession, and the Anointing of the Sick invited pilgrims to draw closer to Christ through the sacraments.
Throughout these days, families, parish groups, and pilgrims traveling on their own brought their intentions to Our Lady. Some came to give thanks. Others came seeking healing, comfort, or guidance. Together, they made time to pray and listen to her Son.
These photos capture a few of those moments: candles lighting the night, pilgrims walking together in prayer, and the faithful gathered around Our Lord in the Eucharist.
May the graces of these days continue to bear fruit in our homes and parishes. Our Lady of Champion, pray for us!
