Personal veneration is available in the Chapel during the hour before the 11:30 a.m. Mass, offering quiet time for prayer and reflection.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s feast day is January 4. In honor of her life and witness, the National Shrine will bring her relic from the Apparition Oratory to the Apparition Chapel for veneration that day.

All are welcome to attend and pray with this holy wife, mother, educator, and religious sister on her feast day!

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was the first person born in the United States to be canonized a saint. After the death of her husband, she entered the Catholic Church and devoted her life to serving God through education and care for the poor. She founded the Sisters of Charity of St. Joseph’s and established one of the first Catholic schools in the United States, helping lay the foundation for the Catholic school system in America.
