(CFN) A new development in the Catholic Church’s recognition of holiness is underway in Wisconsin, as Bishop David L. Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay has officially opened the Cause for beatification and canonization of Servant of God Adele Brice. In an interview with CFN Live, Father Tony Stevens, rector of The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion, explains Brice’s story as a Belgian immigrant who reported Marian apparitions in the 1850s. According to Stevens, Brice responded to the Blessed Mother’s call by dedicating her life to teaching children the faith in the largely undeveloped frontier. The opening of the Cause marks a significant step toward possible sainthood for the woman associated with the only Church-approved Marian apparition site in the United States.
